The QMT

Every now and then a project will come along which you can really connect with, something which goes beyond being just another job. This was one such project as The Queen Mother Theatre has been an important, creative and intrinsic part of the town and community in which I was born and grew up in.

When The QMT approached Heather and I at Sugarzoo to look at a rebranding the Theatre and producing an entirely new website, we jumped at the chance!

For the branding the brief was very specific in that they wanted to keep a link to the their namesake as well as communicating the fact that they are a theatre, a venue which has nearly 40 years of history in Hitchin town.

So, ‘Just the Ticket’ was born, a fresh and contemporary typographic based logo which shouts “we are a theatre venue” whilst keeping a subtle link to the Queen Mother with the use of colour and an iconographic representation of her crown.

The QMT also have a smaller theatre space called The Richard Whitmore Studio which also needed to be considered. Because it is part of The QMT, the ticket logo has an additional tab added when promoting anything to do with The Richard Whitmore studio. This tab devise will also work well with future collaborations, associations and celebrations!

This contemporary feel filtered through into the design of the website with good use of colour, typography, graphics and imagery. The website is an entirely bespoke and fully responsive WordPress build using Gutenberg with a focus on making the back end intuitive and easy for the QMT to use and update.

We also had the opportunity to do a little refresh of The Bancroft Players logo, providing this long established theatre group with a clean and classic vector based graphic that will serve well for yers to come.

The work has now extended in to producing promotional materials for the many productions that The Bancroft Players produce at The QMT each year, which is fantastic for letting the creative juices flow and are a real privilege to work on!
